Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar

If there is a god in this world, he must be resting somewhere in nature. To find this god, I took a trip to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet. This mountain is a sacred place for 3 religions - Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. But it is not as accessible as other tourist attractions in the world.

How to get to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar?

If you are Indian, you can take advantage of the government lottery system (which takes place every year) where they select a random number of people for pilgrimage. While not as cheap as other pilgrimages, it is still cheap compared to international travel.

If you are not Indian (or not an Indian who wants to visit these places privately), you can choose any large travel agency that organizes trips to Tibet (not recommended) or contact people who take small, private groups to Tibet (highly recommended).

Keep in mind that it is not possible to travel to these parts of Tibet on your own.

There is more than one way to visit Tibet. The most obvious is to fly to a major Chinese city - from there to Lhasa - then rent a car to drive around the region. Another option is to fly to Kathmandu, Nepal - drive to the Nepal-Tibet border - get in a 4×4 (with a driver) and drive around the area. The latter is more scenic.

Being both Hindu and Jain, I knew a lot about its history and was so excited when I finally saw it in real life. Lake Mansarovar is HUGE! It takes a lot to see so much of its nature and beauty in one place. I sat on the shore of the lake for hours.

I remembered many things about my past that I don't normally think about. Tears were flowing during this time and I didn't know why. But I know one thing, when I got up from there my heart was lighter than ever.
