The Great Pyramids in Giza, Egypt

The Great Pyramids in Giza are a true wonder of the world and should be high on every traveler's bucket list. I was fortunate enough to visit the pyramids in early 2018 and I can confirm that they are as spectacular as people expected.

The pyramids were built around 5000 years ago and were used as the tombs of the pharaohs at the time. Even today it is still difficult to understand how people were able to build such a site thousands of years ago.

The pyramids are located directly in Cairo and the best way to reach the site is by Uber. Make sure you get off directly there and not at the entrance, as brokers will try to sell you expensive transportation if you get off earlier.

The entrance fee to the pyramids was surprisingly low (around €2) and it is possible to explore the site on foot or by camel. If you want to visit the inside of the pyramids, you need to buy an extra ticket at the entrance.

The area immediately around the pyramids, especially in front of the famous Sphinx, can get quite crowded, but I recommend walking a little further into the desert to get a great view of all six pyramids.

The best time to visit is probably in the afternoon when the sun is slowly setting and shining on this wonder of the world.
